Why social and emotional learning?

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the foundational process through which young people develop the self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision making, self-control, and interpersonal skills vital for thriving in school and beyond. At Anchor Point Collaborative, we view SEL as the internal compass that allows young people to navigate the complexities of modern life. By fostering these core competencies, we empower adolescents to manage their emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, and establish healthy, lasting relationships. In a world of constant change, SEL provides the essential blueprint for resilience, ensuring that every young person is equipped with the mental and emotional agility to face challenges with confidence and purpose.

Our SEL framework is informed by the standards established by CASEL and supported by research from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

why team sports?

At Anchor Point Education, we believe the basketball court is a powerful classroom for life because it provides a high-engagement, high-pressure environment that mirrors real-world challenges. Unlike a traditional clinical setting, the court requires split-second decision-making, resilience after a missed shot, and the ability to communicate effectively under intense stress. We use team sports as a vehicle to move Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) out of a textbook and into active practice, allowing young people to develop "muscle memory" for emotional regulation, grit, and teamwork in real-time. By navigating the wins and losses of the game together, our participants don't just become better athletes, they build the internal strength and social connectivity needed to face life’s complexities with confidence and purpose.

How it works

Schedule your free, 15-minute consultation. Here we’ll ask what you’re looking for and what brought you to our program. You can ask us questions about our program. If you decide to move forward, we’ll discuss fees and schedule the intake appointment.

A woman with shoulder-length reddish-brown hair, wearing a light striped shirt, is talking on a cell phone in an office environment with a laptop and some documents on the table in front of her.

1. Consultation

During your virtual intake appointment, you’ll meet with a member of our clinical staff. We’ll be interested in hearing more about your child. This includes asking questions about their current situation and history. We will also send you any additional paperwork and assign your child to an upcoming cohort.

2. intake appointment

During our 8-week program, up to 15 adolescents will meet for 2 hours per week. We will use short clips from tv shows and movies, music, and crafts and other activities that make our groups interactive, accessible, and enjoyable.

why choose us?

We believe growth happens best in groups, fostering a sense of belonging. Whether through conversation or sport, we find creative ways to help young people grow together.

Community-centered

If your child has struggled with academics, disruptive behaviors, or with making friends, that’s okay. We focus on your child’s potential, not their past mistakes or worst experiences.

Strength-based

Your child doesn’t need to be in crisis to grow. We build skills for life’s everyday challenges and beyond. In an ideal world, we would all be better prepared before a crisis hits.

Proactive growth
