Our Commitment to Confidentiality

At Anchor Point Education, we believe that trust is an essential component of developing resilience. For our programs to be effective, participants must feel they have a safe space to share their stories. We handle confidentiality with the utmost care, following these clear guidelines:

1. The "Safety First" Rule (Mandated Reporting)

While we prioritize privacy, safety is our non-negotiable anchor. Facilitators are legally and ethically required to break confidentiality and contact the appropriate parties (parents, medical professionals, or authorities) if we believe:

  • A participant is at risk of harming themselves.

  • A participant intends to harm someone else.

  • A participant is being abused or neglected.

2. The Facilitator-Teen Relationship

In our group sessions, what is shared in the circle stays in the circle. Facilitators do not provide parents with a play-by-play of what their teen says in group. This privacy allows young people to explore their emotions honestly. We encourage them to share their progress with their parents on their own terms, but we respect their right to a private therapeutic space.

3. Communication with Parents

While we protect the specifics of a teen’s sharing, we keep parents informed on a high level. Our communication with parents typically includes:

  • General Progress: Updates on the teen’s engagement and participation.

  • Skill Application: Insights into the SEL themes we are covering so parents can support practicing these skills at home.

  • Safety Concerns: Immediate notification if any of the "Safety First" criteria mentioned above are met.

4. Group Community Agreements

Every cohort begins by creating a Community Agreement. All participants must agree that what is shared by their peers stays within the group. While we cannot legally control what one participant tells another outside of our sessions, we foster a culture of mutual respect and explain that protecting each other’s stories is a vital part of building community.

5. Digital & Physical Records

Any notes taken by facilitators or information gathered during the intake process are stored in a secure, encrypted digital environment. Access is limited strictly to the clinical and leadership team members directly involved in the participant’s care.
